Crafty Weekend

This weekend we got hit with a blizzard, Nemo, out here on the East Coast. With blizzard warnings and precautions in full effect, I figured we would be hanging out in our apartment most of the weekend. I stocked up on essentials: water, bread, cheese, fruit, magazines, candles and wine (of course!). Plus, I ran over to Michael’s craft store to pick up some painting supplies for the weekend. I love being crafty, and have been this way since I was a kid. But, occasionally I’ll get a real urge to express my creative outlet (paint, draw, etc). This weekend it was painting! Last weekend I had realized that we didn’t any have good magnets for our fridge. I decided to make some. It was so much fun, and so easy, and now we have great, personalized magnets. My best friend and fabulous sister, Sera (you can follow her blog here http://dresschicforme.wordpress.com/ ) saw a picture of them and was telling me how much she loved them. So, I made her a set this weekend. I also made a few larger canvases (2 as gifts to Sera, and then the state map with hearts in Orange County, CA, and New York City is for us in our apartment) Check out some of the finished project artwork below. And, check out the super easy way to make these yourself!
Want to make your own Personalized Magnets?
Here you go:
Head to a craft store (Michael’s, JoAnn’s, etc)
Pick up:
A pack of paintbrushes ($10 @ Michael’s)
An assortment of paints (always remember to get white paint, as you can mix it with other colors to create lighter shades easily)
A pack of round magnets
Super glue (or a glue gun if you already have one) to glue the magnets to the canvas
Canvas (whatever size you prefer) to paint on. For magnets, I find that White Mini Canvas Panels (2 in. x 2 in.) work best
Dixie cups to put the paint in
Have fun and be creative! (If you need ideas, a great place to start is with some fun, inspirational quotes)
